HikING

Bear Creek Trail
Enjoy this 4.5 mile out-and-back trail in Uncompahgre National Forest. Usually takes 2.5 hours to complete. The trailhead is conveniently located in town at the end of South Pine Street and leads to breathtaking views of the 80-foot cascade of upper Bear Creek Falls. A steady 2-mile climb leads to upper Bear Creek Falls and connects to the Wasatch Trail and Bridal Veil Basin. Approximately 1 hour to reach Upper Bear Creek Falls. For this hike and all hikes, remember to bring plenty of water and trail snacks. Download All Trails for the best trail navigation tips. [learn more]

Bridal Veil Trail
Get to know this 2.0-mile out-and-back trail.Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 28 min to complete. This trail leads to the base of a beautiful waterfall. The trail itself is quite rocky, so appropriate hiking footwear is highly recommended, and if the water is high, you might consider bringing extra socks as well, so your feet stay dry after a creek crossing or two! There are also tons of connecting trails that you could follow if you're looking for a longer hike. [learn more]

Blue Lake
The hike to Blue Lake is about 5.25 miles long with 2,000 ft elevation gain. The trailhead begins at the Bridal Veil Falls power plant and usually takes about 4 hours to complete. Stay on the road and pass a tin roofed shed where the road switches upward, sharply to the left, away from the creek. Blue Lake is an hour from this shed. Continue walking on this main road which climbs beyond the Royal Mine ruins where you eventually come to a Y. Take the left, toward the pointed pyramid shaped mountain in the skyline. Blue Lake is in the basin below, the left, east. Fun fact: Blue Lake itself is private property. It is the domestic water supply for the upper San Miguel Valley. Hope Lake
This is a 5.3 mile out and back round-trip hike that takes approximately 3 hours to complete. With 1,130 elevation gain. The route to Hope Lake is found from Trout Lake. A beautiful hike with views of Trout Lake, wildflowers galore, and Lizard Head wilderness. [learn more]

Jud Wiebe Trail
Jud Wiebe is a 3.1 mile hike out and back loop. 1-2 hours round-trip. Access to this loop can be found either from Aspen Street or Tomboy Road. If you are hiking from Tomboy Rd, take the first switchback to the left where the road is generally closed to cars by a steel gate. It is a steep walk past the water storage tank to Liberty Bell Flats. In the flats, is a sign designating the Jud Wiebe Memorial Trail, which drops down through the trees on the left. The trail continues down to the wooden bridge across Cornet Creek, and then climbs moderately to the ridge viewpoint. [learn more]
